Safer Road Crossings on the Trail

The Michigan Air Line Trail, like many newer rail-trails, was designed with added safety features. Nearly all of the road crossings on the Air Line Trail —eight of them— include some type of warning beacon.

 

These beacons are designed to alert motorists that a trail user is planning to cross, and some actually require a stop, much like a typical crosswalk at a standard stop light.

 

In addition to the video, the Michigan Air Line Trailway Council is also producing new signage at signalized road crossings to help educate trail users on the right way to cross the roads:
